Home repair extends to the outside of your home, as much as in the inside of your home. It’s important to inspect all aspects of your home for needed improvements and that includes the gutters. It’s easy to overlook gutters, but it can damage your home greatly if they are.
Gutters are meant to prevent water from damaging your home caused by rain and other precipitation. When they do not work properly, they can allow water to seep inside the home and cause damage. Here are a few signs your gutters need to be replaced:
- Broken seams. Gutters line your entire home and are joined by horizontal seams. These seams can become loose or separated. This can change the flow of water and cause damage.
- Cracks or splits. Gutters are typically made of aluminum and is lightweight. But it also means that they can crack and split from weather. Small cracks may not seem like a big deal, but like a small leak in the roof, it can lead to bigger problems down the road if not properly repaired.
- Peeling paint. If you notice peeling paint in water that falls from your gutters, it means that you have standing water in your gutters and it’s not flowing properly. This is an indication that water is not flowing properly and your gutters need to be replaced.
- Sagging or pulling. When gutters begin to sag or pull away from your home, this may mean that they are full of water and/or debris. If cleaning the gutters doesn’t help, then they will need to be replaced.
When it comes to repair or replacement of your gutters, it’s best to call a professional. They know all the signs of damage and can do an inspection to identify if your gutters need to be replaced or repaired.
